Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and the United Nations Secretary General’s Special Advisor on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide met in Athens on Tuesday for an hour and a half. Their talks focused on Cyprus talks between Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiadis and Turkish-Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci.
Tsipras told Eide that he supports a just, viable and complete solution for Cyprus that would involve the removal of Turkish troops from the island. He said that a solution should be based on the UN resolution and bear in mind Cyprus’ status as an EU member state.
During the one and a half hour meeting, the two men discussed bicommunal talks ahead of a press release that Anastasiades and Akinci will present on Wednesday. According to the CNA, drafts of the document have been discussed already.
