Education Ministry's Memo: No Cell Phones or Tablets at Schools!

The Ministry of Education circulated a memorandum to schools around the country banning the use of cell phones and other electronic devices with the capability of recording sound or images. The memo merely asserts regulations already in force.
The document detailing theĀ  use of electronic devices was sent to school units following the recommendation of the Institute of Education Policy.
For primary education, the following is foreseen:
1. Students should notĀ  have cell phones on the educational grounds.
2. Students should not bring any electronic device or game that has a digital image or recording image. The only electronic devices with such capacity are the ones already owned by schools for usage during lesson time for educational purposes.
3. Teachers may use their own electronic devices (computers, laptops, tablets, interactive boards etc.) during the lesson for the purposes of education but should always bear in mind safety and ensure that there is respect concerning the personal data of students and other teachers.
4. Photographs and videos featuring students on the internet sites of school units should be avoided. Photographs are personal data according to article A of Law 2472/1997. Article 5 of the same law states that the editing and posting or sharing of digital data (photos, video, activities from school life) are of personal character and allowed only when parents and guardians of students give their approval. Teachers are encouraged to download approvals from the Internet Safety Network for parents to sign.
