The Ifestia Festival of Santorini takes place each September with a series of artistic events aimed at re-enacting the Thera eruption in 1600 BC. The eruption itself had a huge impact on European civilization, especially the Minoan Civilization of Crete. Fireworks across the caldera made this year’s event on Saturday, September 17, a sight to behold. Boats head off at the Caldera, while others watch from the mainland as events take place at the volcano.
Since 1991, the festival has been a sight to behold. With music and fireworks. The event that once took place in August, has been transferred to September to extend the tourist season.
