Assessment of Greek Mission in New York

tsipras-oheAccording to government sources, the trip of the Greek mission in New York during the 71st United Nations General Assembly was successful in regards to the refugee issue, Cyprus negotiations and debt relief talks.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon praised Greece for its handing of the refugee crisis and above all the solidarity shown by the Greek people. In his talks with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras he said that Lesvos island deserves the Nobel Peace Prize.
Tsipras also discussed the issue of Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia with UN Special Representative for the naming dispute between Greece and the Republic of Macedonia, Matthew Nimetz. Greece’s leader reiterated the government’s positions on the issue.
On the Cyprus issue, Tsipras met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, where the two sides stressed the importance of dialogue and good faith in resolving the problem. Tsipras stressed that the issue is linked to stability in the region and reiterated the Greek position that the Turkish troops must withdraw from the northern part of the island.
On the debt issue, the Greek side expressed its optimism that debt relief will be discussed before the end of the year, after the meeting Tsipras had with U.S. Vice President Joe Biden who said that the U.S. supports the Greek side on debt easing.
Meanwhile, Deputy Finance Minister Giorgos Chouliarakis met with several hedge funds. Specifically Chouliarakis met with representatives of lden Global Capital LLC, Amber Capital LP Artha Capital Management Inc, Caravel Management LLC, Cleargate Capital LLC, Fred Alger Management Inc, Knighthead Capital Management LLC, Oaktree Capital Management LP, SkyBridge Capital II LLC, Soros Fund Management LLC, Timessquare Capital Management LLC, Tudor Investment Corporation, Goldman Sachs, Bank of America-Meryll Lynch and Discovery Investment.
Government sources expressed the optimism that investors expect economic recovery in Greece.
