Berlin: Greece Continues to Drag Feet on Required Reforms

simaies-24-9-708There is concern in Berlin that the Greek government is very slow in implementing the reforms required for the completion of the second bailout program review.
According to a report in Ta Nea newspaper, the German government – Greece’s biggest creditor – is once more uncomfortable with the slow pace of negotiations on the bailout program progress.
“The Greek government continues to progress slowly in implementing the prerequisites, often missing the priorities that promote the Greek economy,” a German official on terms of anonymity told Ta Nea.
“We can not always repeat the same discussions. What is often missing is targeted work on specific projects,” the source said.
With the IMF’s decision whether to participate in Greece’s third rescue program expected at the end of the year, the German official said that if for some reason the Fund decides not to participate, then further funding is likely to stop in January.
“We go by the Eurogroup decision of May 2016. Without the participation of the IMF, it is difficult to imagine that there will be a tranche disbursement next year,” the German official told Ta Nea.
