Russia to Conduct Observation Flights Over Greece, U.S. as part of Open Skies Treaty

greece plane viewAccording to statements from the Russian Defense Ministry as a part of the Open Skies treaty Russian monitors are planning to fly over the skies of Greece and the U.S.
“The flight [over Greece] will depart at some point on September 26-30 from Nea Anchialos “open skies” airport,” Sergei Ryzhkov, head of the Russian Defense Ministry’s Nuclear Risk Reduction Center stated.
The U.S. flight will take place sometime in the last week of September with observers departing from Travis airport in California.
The open skies treaty first came about in 2002 to encourage unarmed aerial surveillance flights between 27 member-states of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and 7 additional states that have ratified the agreement.
