Greek Economy Expects Budget Surplus in its First Rebound Since Crisis Began

draft budget
A Greek government official says that Greece predicts 2.7 percent in economic growth for next year for its first rebound after a seven-year recession. The source, familiar with Greece’s 2017 draft budget that is to be tabled in Greek Parliament on Monday, said that investment and tourism will pick up.
The same official said on Thursday that the economic growth forecast compares with a 0.3 percent contraction in 2016 anticipated by lenders. He said that the surplus for this year would exceed the surplus target though the draft to be presented to Greek Parliament would not include a specific figure for 2017.
The bailout deal that benchmarks 86 billion euros for Greece states that Greece must achieve a surplus of 0.5 percent this year and 1.75 percent in 2017, excluding debt servicing costs.
