Tourist Discovers Active WWII Mine off Coast of Skopelos

SkopelosAccording to authorities, an active mine from WWII was discovered by a tourist on Skopelos some 70 meters from the beach of Loutraki while diving.
Local authorities just announced the discovery of the mine on Saturday, although the tourist found it some 40 days ago.
The Greek military was alerted and sent de-mining teams to deactivate the live mine, however they were unable to do so due to undersea power cables that power the entire island running close to the mine.
Local authorities then alerted the state power company (DEH) to resolve the issue with the power lines to allow the military to deactivate the mine. There are no further updates at this time.
