11,372 Migrants on Aegean Islands Requesting Asylum; 272 New Arrivals Since Friday

Some 43 refugees were rescued late Monday by a Frontex patrol vessel in the sea region southeast of Samos island amidst strong winds and difficult sea.
A total of 273 migrants and refugees arrived on the Greek islands in the last four days from Friday to Tuesday morning. Of them, 158 reached the coasts of Samos, 111 arrived on Lesvos and only four landed on the island of Chios.
According to police, the number of migrants who have sought asylum and are stranded on the Aegean islands reached 11,372 on Tuesday with 5,324 on Lesvos, 4,126 on Chios and 1,922 on Samos.
