Greek FinMin Says Investigation of Tax Evaders on Lagarde List Going at a Snails Pace

tryfon-alexiadisAccording to data recently released by Alternative Finance Minister Tryfon Alexiadis to the Greek Parliament, sifting through the long list of tax dodgers from the so-called Lagarde list is going at an extremely slow rate. Alexiadis says under-staffing and difficulty closing cases with adequate evidence is partially to blame.
On Thursday Alexaidis said that the Lagarde list which details names of Greek depositors at the Swiss branch of USBC has resulted in only 177 of the 623 cases being probed. He told parliament that the initial amount of taxes demanded in each of the 177 cases was 1.27 million euros, however, this amount is before the accused dispute the fees in court and settle on a deal.
