Judge Suspends Proceedings on Tuesday for Trial of Golden Dawn Due to Scuffles, Rising Tension

Golden Dawn trialTuesday morning saw more disruptions of the trial into alleged criminal activities of the far-right political party Golden Dawn, as scuffles and tension between supporters and anti-fascists broke out inside and outside of the Athens Court, according to sources. The head judge called for a recess and suspended proceedings for the day.
This is the second consecutive day that clashes have occurred as Monday was filled with escalating tensions which led anarchists and anti-fascist activists to throw projectiles at Golden Dawn supporters outside of the courthouse as well as confront riot police.
The testimony being heard by the court on Tuesday revolved around a unionist’s testimony involving claims that 50 Golden Dawn party members violently attacked some 20 PAME union activists from the communist party in September 2013.
This is not the first time the political party is in the spotlight for violence as just a few days after the alleged attack against PAME in September 2013, a member of Golden Dawn, George Roupakia confessed to murdering anti-fascist rapper, Pavlos Fyssas in the Athens suburb of Piraeus.
