While the Eurozone’s unemployment rate is at a 5-year low, Greece continues to be the unemployment champ of the euro area with 23.2 percent unemployment in September. The EU’s statistics watchdog, Eurostat, reported on Thursday that joblessness is decreasing with seasonally adjusted unemployment in the euro area at 10 percent, down 10.9 percent since September 2015. For the EU28 unemployment was at 8.5 percent, down from 9.2 percent in September 2015.
Greece, however, continued to have an unparalleled joblessness rate at 23.2 percent, followed by Spain at 19.3 percent. On the other end of the spectrum, Germany had the least unemployment (4.1 percent).
Youth unemployment (under 25 years) was at 20.3 percent in the Eurozone, and 18.3 percent in the EU28. Greece once again had the highest youth unemployment rate with 42.7 percent, Spain at 42.6 percent and Italy at 37.1 percent.
