Greek Surgeon, Anesthetist, Paramedic Ask for Bribe to Operate on Patient

eyagelismosA neurosurgeon, an anesthetist and a paramedic of the Evangelismos public hospital in Athens were arrested by Greek police on charges of asking for a bribe to operate on a patient.
The Internal Affairs Directorate of the Hellenic Police filed charges for the offense of bribery to a public sector employee after arresting the three men on Thursday. This was another case of the well-known “fakelaki,” the envelope containing the money to bribe a civil servant.
According to police, the paramedic approached the relative of the patient who was in need of surgery and demanded money in order for the neurosurgeon and the anesthetist to perform the surgery, unless, he said, they will not operate on him. The relative of the patient told police that he gave the paramedic 50 euros.
The three men will be brought to the competent prosecutor on Friday.
