Far-Left Group Claims Responsibility of Grenade Attack on French Embassy in Greece

embaFar-left group Organisation of Revolutionary Autodefence on Monday claimed responsibility for Thursday’s grenade attack on the French Embassy in Athens, injuring a police officer on duty.
In a long statement posted on anarchist website Indymedia, the group explains the reasons behind the attack against the French embassy.
France was targeted for several reasons, the statement says, namely the death of green activist Remi Fraisse who was killed by a French police bullet in October 2014 during a protest, the clearing of the migrant camp in Calais housing thousands trying to cross over into Britain, and the life sentence being served by Lebanese national Georges Ibrahim Abdallah for terrorist acts.
The group also claims responsibility for the shots fired against PASOK offices in May 2014 and the shots fired at the Mexican Embassy in Athens in July. The group said they will continue the “armed struggle” in an “international revolutionary movement.”
Police are investigating the authenticity of the statement. The grenade hurled at the French Embassy left a tennis ball-sized hole in the pavement, and shrapnel marks on the embassy gate and guard box. The policeman on duty suffered leg injuries after trying to take shelter in the bullet-proof box as the grenade exploded.
