A draft bill incorporating EU directives on developing alternative fuels infrastructure into Greek law was tabled in Parliament on Friday using fast-track procedures. The draft legislation, which contains some of the prior actions needed to conclude the 2nd review of Greece’s adjustment programme, is due to be voted on in the Parliament plenum next week.
Transport Minister Christos Spirtzis said that the new legislation will make Greece the sixth of the EU member-states that has harmonized its national legislation with European directives on developing the non-petroleum-based fuel and energy market.
It will also include articles that are among the commitments for structural reforms that Greece has made, relating to the simplification of processes for running and operating fuel stations and issues concerning engineering degrees, specialist types of engineers and related matters. The section simplifying and reducing the time needed for the issue of a fuel station license will incorporate clauses setting stiff disciplinary penalties for employees that fail to conform to what is required of them, which is one the prior actions of the 2nd review.
It also lays out the technical specifications for fuel stations, while establishing the use of a certified engineer to serve as safety technician.
