ritsonaThe refurbishment of Ritsona camp will improve the living conditions of the refugees who live there by providing full catering and healthcare, Alternate Defense Minister Dimitris Vitsas said on Tuesday, who attended the reopening of the center.
In the camp, situated about an hour from Athens, tents were replaced by small cabins and shared areas were created to accommodate 160 families. It also has an area for children, shared bathrooms and toilets and sports areas. Moreover, buses will transport refugees to nearby destinations.
The refurbishment was organized and funded by the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Greece, the Red Crescent, the Greek Red Cross and the cooperation by the ministries of migration and defense.
“In a difficult economic period, the refugee center will give joy and warmth to refugee families. The facilities will meet the families’ housing needs by providing full catering services in a decent living environment, under the supervision of doctors and nurses,” Vitsas said at the opening. “At the same time, with the creation of recreation areas within the premises we are trying to contribute to an emotional uplift of all refugees.”
