On Monday the presidentĀ of Eurogroup, Jeroen Dijsselbloem, told eurozone finance ministers that the time for realistic expectations regarding Greece’s fiscal targets is on the horizon as he bluntly stated: “We need to be realistic” about setting expectations for the financial future of Greece, Reuters reported.
The current bailout program is set to end in 2018, Dijsselbloem pointed out, urging the European lenders to keep “realistic” fiscal targets in mind for Greece, adding that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is spot-on when they sayĀ that “running a primary surplus of 3.5 percent for a very long time is a huge thing to ask” of a country.
The next Eurogroup meeting is scheduled to take place in Brussels on December 5 where the Greek debt issue of primary surplus after 2018 is set to be a main topic of discussion.
