Two teenagers drowned while another three people were rescued by migrants and fishermen, as their car plunged off a quay at the Mytilene Port on Lesvos, early on Monday.
The car swerved and fell off a quay at 3:30 am on Monday, witnesses told state news agency ANA-MPA. The 20-year-old driver and a 20-year-old in the front passenger seat were rescued. However, the driver’s 15-year-old brother and his girlfriend of the same age, both sitting in the back, drowned.
Three migrants who happened to be near the spot jumped in the water along with some fishermen and helped rescue the three passengers.
According to ANA-MPA, the three young people who were rescued were in a state of shock and received treatment at the Mytilene Hospital, while police are investigating to determine the cause of the accident.
