Greece's National Council on Foreign Policy to Convene Friday

The National Council on Foreign Policy will convene on Friday so that Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias can brief political leaders on developments regarding the Cyprus issue.
The meeting comes after opposition parties criticized the foreign ministry for providing incomplete information on crucial issues such as Turkey’s territorial claims and Greece’s positions about abolishing the guarantors system and the withdrawal of Turkish troops from the occupied areas.
However, a Foreign Ministry statement notes that Kotzias has called on the Council to convene once a year and has already briefed twice the committee and pertinent House bodies.
The Council will convene ahead of the critical January 12 multilateral conference on Cyprus that will take place in Geneva. The Greek Cypriot community and the Turkish Cypriot community will join Greece, Turkey and the United Kingdom — which are the three guarantor powers — in the crucial talks.
It is possible that other parties will join the conference, as the European Union has already expressed its willingness to participate.
