Exposure to Aspropyrgos Factory Fire Means 13% Increased Chance of Developing Cancer, Experts Say

Some disturbing news was announced at an event by the coordinator of CROME-LIFE, the Cross-Mediterranean Environment and Health Network who stated that people who live in Aspropyrgos within a 2-kilometer radius of a recycling factory which caught fire last year have an increased 13 percent chance of developing cancer.
The event took place on Tuesday in Athens where the health network of international experts who examined the findings spoke of the risk of exposure to harmful toxins during the fire for both residents of the area as well as the environment.
“We have conducted blood tests and calculated the amount of dioxins that passed through the bodies of the area’s residents,” Dimosthenis Sariyiannis commented to the Greek newspaper, Kathimerini, when explaining the panel’s conclusions.
