Min Pappas: 'The German Finance Minister Never Wanted the Greek Program to Succeed'

On Saturday while speaking on Skai TV, Telecoms and Media Minister Nikos Pappas commented that “The German finance minister never wanted the Greek program to succeed.”
While speaking on the news show about the German finance minister, Wolfgang Schaeuble, Minister Pappas also added that the bailout program for Greece will not be undergoing any changes until 2018 and that he has observed that the country’s international lenders are currently divided in opinion as to what is the best approach for Greece.
Pappas specifically referenced the International Monetary Fund (IMF) saying “The IMF is not necessary to the Greek program as the European Commission questions its numbers,” adding, “The IMF is arm-in-arm with the German Finance Ministry.”
When speaking of reaching terms regarding the bailout and debt relief from Greece’s lenders, the minister commented that the situation is a “political confrontation” and that “This is the first time that a program for Greece is working and this is because low primary budget surpluses have been agreed, with the priority being given to protecting the most vulnerable.” Pappas once again referenced Wolfgang Schaeuble regarding this matter, saying: “Only someone who is one-sided politically can refuse to see that the Greek economy is stabilizing.”
He then went on to comment about the opposition, New Democracy (ND) demanding snap elections, saying “Elections is something that Mitsotakis is dreaming and propagandizing about in order to tame his parliamentary group,” adding, “The elections will take place in 2019 and it is obvious that political expediency has seeped into public opinion polls. New Democracy does not have a 15 percent lead.”
