Civil Protection Issues Weather Warnings Throughout Greece as Athens Welcomes Snowfall

Thursday Greeks in Athens woke up to the surrounding Parnitha and Ymmitos mountains covered with snow from top to bottom — something that is a rare sight in the Mediterranean capital city.
The forecast for the remainder of the day in Athens includes more snow and rain with a low of 3 degrees Celsius and a high of only 6 degrees celsius.
Greece’s Civil Protection has also issued a Warning for Extreme Snow Weather Conditions for the weather going into the New Year’s weekend from Thursday to Saturday where more snowfall in Athens and Attica, the Cyclades and Crete is expected.
On Friday, authorities say that there will be high winds reaching up to 10 Beaufort in the Aegean Sea.
On Friday the Civil Protection has said that they expect a very cold day with temperatures of -14 or -16 degrees Celsius in some mountainous areas.
