Sometime next week Greece’s Supreme Court will hand down a decision in the case of the Turkish military officers seeking asylum after landing their aircraft in Greece following the failed military coup attempt in Turkey in July 2016.
The eight officers say that their lives are in danger if they return to their country and their lawyers argue that they will not be able to receive a fair trial in Turkey.
Sources report that the court’s criminal section is going to be holding three hearings next week to review the appeals of the officers on January 10, 11 and 13, while the Supreme Court is reviewing the cases of the three officers who were denied asylum by the Council of Appeals Court Judges.
