Outgoing U.S. President Barack Obama and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had a telephone conversation on Wednesday in which they discussed the Cyprus issue, inter alia.
The two leaders also discussed issues regarding the wider Aegean and Middle East region.
According to the Turkish press, the two sides reiterated their adherence to the goal of a bizonal, bicommunal federal solution on the island.
The U.S. President asked his Turkish counterpart for a multidimensional focus and flexibility on resolving the Cyprus issue, ahead of the crucial summit in Geneva on January 12.
Meanwhile, Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias is currently meeting with the UN Secretary General Special Adviser Espen Barth Eide who is visiting the Greek capital. Kotzias will also hold a meeting with the new UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres in New York before the Geneva conference.
