Athens' Homeless to Be Sheltered at Metro Stations Over Weekend

As Greece braces for another cold snap over the weekend, authorities have announced that three metro locations in central Athens will stay open over the weekend in order to provide shelter for the city’s homeless population.
The three metro stations that will be hosting the homeless are Omonia, Monastiraki and Metaxourgeio.
According to the Transport Minister Christos Spirtzis, measures will be taken to keep metro stations open in the future as well to house the homeless if cold weather strikes again.
The weather in Athens is predicted to drop below zero Celsius for around three days starting Friday as experts expect -10 Celsius with the wind chill. Other parts of the country to the north and in the mountains are expecting temperatures as low as -25 Celsius with the wind chill.
