Snow and Frost Turn the Greek Islands White! (Photos)

The temperatures in Greece plummeted once again over the weekend, causing snow and frost throughout the country, including some of the islands.
Temperatures as low as -12 degrees Celsius were recorded in central Greece in the mountainous regions of Fthiotida starting Friday evening.
Lamia saw temperatures as low as -5 degrees Celsius as well as icy road conditions making the city’s snow plows work frantically throughout the night to clear the streets.
Athens also saw some snow accumulate and the surrounding mountains of Ymyttos and Parnitha were snow-covered as Athenians woke up in the morning to temperatures around 1-2 degrees Celsius.
The second largest island in the country, Evia, saw over 50 centimeters of snow in some locations, making commuting difficult throughout the mountainous island. Other nearby islands such as Skopelos also saw cold temperatures and snow accumulation.
