Bi-Communal Events in Support of Cyprus Talks in Nicosia Ahead of Geneva Meeting

In northern Nicosia on Sunday both Greek and Turkish Cypriots attended a bi-communal event preceding the Cyprus talks which are going to be resuming this week in Geneva.
Different media outlets such as Politis, Yeni Duzen, and Kanal Sim organized the event which they dubbed “Countdown to Peace.”
The crowd was filled with community members and media outlets from both sides of the conflict and the Cyprus Mail reports that the newspapers came together saying that “Together we will welcome the new year, one day before the start of negotiations in Geneva, with the hope that 2017 will be the year that will once again unify all Cypriots.”
There was also entertainment by music groups Giorgos Kalopedis and Okyanus as well as food and drinks.
After the event people who were in attendance walked down to the crossing at the buffer zone between the two check points of Ledra Street and Lokmaci in a symbolic gesture of unity.
Some 130 unions from the two communities have organized a similar event for this Tuesday in the Nicosia buffer zone at the Cetin Kaya stadium at 6pm local time in support of the Cyprus talks.
