European Commission: Greece has Received €482 Mln for Refugees

Since early 2015, Greece has received 481.9 million euros in aid from the European Union to address the humanitarian and refugee crisis, according to the Athens News Agency.
ANA-MPA has published European Commission figures, according to which, a total of 1,059 billion euros is earmarked for the purpose until 2020. For the 2014-2020 national program, a total 509 million is allocated for the refugees alone. In addition, since early 2015 Greece has received 352 million euros in emergency aid.
Both amounts of national programs (509 million euros) and the emergency assistance (352 million euros) are available through the Immigration and Integration Asylum Fund (TAME) and the Internal Security Fund (TEA). The beneficiaries of the emergency funding are the Greek Authorities, receiving 178 million euros that has already been approved in ministries, police, coast guard, first reception service and the International and European organizations and NGOs that have received 175 million. The funds have already been approved for the UNHCR, the European Asylum Support Office, the International Organization for Migration and others.
Of the total funds, 296 billion euros have been disbursed in advance for specific actions.
Furthermore, the Extraordinary EU Emergency Facility managed by the Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management, Christos Stylianides, issued about 198 million euros to Greece since the beginning of 2016. The emergency funding was to be managed by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the Red Cross and 11 European NGOs. Of these funds, 185.95 million euros went for a series of specific actions (improvement of existing accommodation centers, construction of new camps before the winter, improvement of hygiene conditions, providing direct assistance to refugees with vouchers, refugee children access to education and assistance to unaccompanied minors).
The EU partners through which humanitarian aid is granted to Greece for the refugee crisis are the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the Red Cross and ten European NGOs (International Rescue Committee, Danish Refugee Council, Medecins du Monde, OXFAM, Save the Children, Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund, Norwegian Refugee Council, Mercy Corps, CARE Germany, Terre des Hommes).
Finally, the funds that have been approved since the beginning of 2015 and went directly to the Greek authorities and are administered by the Immigration and Integration Asylum Fund (TAME) and the Internal Security Fund (TEA), the lion’s share went to the ministry of defense, a total 89 million euros.
