BoG: Lowest Revenue From Tourism in Three Years

According to figures from the Bank of Greece (BoG) released on Monday tourism revenues drastically decreased in 2016 compared to previous years.
The data shows that tourism revenues showed a 6.6 percent annual drop bringing total revenues to equal 13.03 billion euros compared to 13.94 billion in the first 11 months of 2015 and 13.21 billion over the same period in 2014.
There were different sectors of tourism examined including the decline of tourists from specific countries of origin. It was observed that French tourists in particular decreased spending on vacation in Greece by some 299.1 million euros, followed by U.S. visitors decreasing by some 221.9 million euros, Germans at 92.4 million and Britons at 62.9 million. However, it was also noted that there was a 17.9-million-euro increase in revenues from Russians.
