Turkish FM Threatens Greece With 'Accident' in the Aegean

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu indirectly threatened Greece with an “accident” in the Aegean and called on Greek Defense Minister Panos Kammenos to “come back to his senses.”
In an interview with Hurriyet newspaper, the Turkish minister criticized comments made by Kammenos and said that his comments and actions cause problems in the relations between the two neighboring countries.
The statement came one day after the Greek minister flew over Imia islet and dropped a wreath in commemoration of the death of three Greek soldiers whose helicopter crashed on the islet on January 31, 1996 in the midst of a confrontation between the two countries over the sovereignty of Imia.
Cavusoglu called Kammenos’ behavior “provocative” and went to the extent of saying that such behavior may cause an “unwanted accident” that could not be repaired.
The Turkish foreign minister said that “Kammenos is coalition partner in the Tsipras government, being the leader of the far right, is also Minister of Defense of Greece. This minister provokes constantly. Greece is making provocative moves since a long time ago. We behave sensibly so that there is no tension with our neighbor.”
