Main opposition New Democracy (ND) leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis called on the government to deal with the repercussions of the refugee issue on the local communities. Mitsotakis on Friday visited the refugee camp of Moria, Mytilene, and he was briefed on the situation.
As he said, all political leaders agreed last March on a common policy to address the issue, but main aspects of this policy have never been implemented. One of the main issues agreed were the distinction of refugees and economic migrants as well as the better absorption of EU funds to improve infrastructure. Unfortunately, this did not happen and the situation in the camp is totally discouraging, he added.
