Greek Conservative Party Continues to Lead in Polls, Leaving Leftist Gov't 11.8 Points Behind

A new nationwide survey published on Wednesday shows New Democracy 11.8 percentage points ahead of SYRIZA in voting intention, with ND gathering 28.6% of citizens preferences and SYRIZA 16.8%.
The poll was conducted by RASS using a sample of 1,504 potential voters in the January 31-February 2 period and recorded a further widening of the spread on intention to vote in favor of the conservative party.
Participants were asked whether they prefer the establishment of an all-party government, given the severity of present conditions. The answers were divided on the issue, with 49.9% being against the formation of an all-party government and 47.6% in favor.
Responding to the question “Who is responsible for the present condition of Greece,” 56.6% of participants replied that New Democracy and PASOK are to blame, while 33.3% put the blame on the current administration.
Regarding the euro and the choice to return to the drachma, 71.4% of respondents expressed the view that Greece should remain in the euro zone and 22.4% are in favor of the national currency.
To the question “What the government should do to complete the bailout program review,” 47.6% said the country should go to early elections, 25.7% proposed a referendum while 12.3% would like to see the government succumbing to lenders’ requirements and legislate new measures. Furthermore, 73.6% of respondents believe that the current administration will not last for the full four-year term.
In evaluating the two-year mandate of Alexis Tsipras and his cabinet, 40.1% recognize the effort made by the prime minister, regardless of its outcome. However, 40.3% of respondents believe that the conservative party leader, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, is more suitable for prime minister than Alexis Tsipras, who is liked by 20.5% of participants.

Finally, when asked about the expectations they have from new U.S. President Donald Trump, 50.3% believe that the Trump administration will have a negative impact on Greece, while 27.9% are optimistic about the new U.S. administration.

On intention to vote, participants “put” six parties in parliament, if elections were to be held now. Specifically:

KKE 7.3%
