Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Saturday said that “those who play games” and speak of “a euro zone of two speeds, of splits and divisions, must know that they are playing with fire.”
The Greek prime minister was referring to the International Monetary Fund and German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble while addressing the SYRIZA Central Committee.
Tsipras sent an indirect message to German Chancellor Angela Merkel saying in invitation to the Chancellor … saying, “I want to beseech the chancellor to discourage the finance minister to continue his aggression against Greece and press reports that Greeks live beyond their means.”
Tsipras further said that his government is not prepared to discuss creditors’ requirements that are illogical and infeasible.
“We will not accept any more games in the back of Greece, in the back of Greek people,” he said, warning the German finance minister that those who “play games for a euro zone of two speeds, of splits and divisions, must know that they are playing with fire. And I am sure that their own government would not allow arsonists playing with matches in a storage full of ammunition. ”
Tsipras also attacked the IMF saying that it “does not want to finance the (bailout) program.” He further said that the Fund has lost its credibility by “constantly making erroneous predictions and is unable to support a program without a generous debt cut.”
“Europe, on the others side, they refuse to make a decision before their critical elections, fearing the rise of the extreme Right,” Tsipras continued. “And the IMF doesn’t have the courage of its conviction, while some of its members seem to prefer to play games. They prefer to play a poker game, delaying, and because they don’t want to put the blame on the German minister, they try to invent demands that are irrational, impossible and imaginary in order to make Greece look unreliable and, in my opinion, they have already taken the decision to not finance the program.”
