Eleni Christaki didn’t know it at the time, but by helping out her grandson Christophoros Karvounidis, a photography student in Thessaloniki, she was about to become to next viral photo spread by Vogue Italia on their electronic edition of the iconic fashion magazine.
The devoted yiayia from Kria Vrisi Pella posed for her grandson who took the photos with natural light that peaked through the blinds of her home — wearing a simple sleeveless blouse and no makeup with her hair pulled back.
When Christophoros sent the photos on to Vogue Italia and they were published, the 74-year-old yiayia stated that she thought people would “laugh at her” as she told the newspaper Sunday Nation, “In my youth I was beautiful, but at this age to sit for a beauty and fashion magazine?”
The readers of Vogue Italia disagreed immediately with this sentiment, admiring Eleni’s natural beauty as portrayed in the simple yet elegant photos. The photo spread went viral and was dubbed with the caption “beauty has no age” from the famous fashion magazine.
