IMF Must Reduce Its Demands, French FinMin Sapin Says

French Finance Minister Michel Sapin sent a message to IMF to reduce its demands. After successive meetings with Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos and Economy Minister Dimitris Papadimitriou, Sapin said that “the IMF has been here since 2010. If it leaves, it would be a pity for Greece’s credibility. Agreements must be reached. You cannot ask everything from Greece. Greece has made a lot of efforts.”
Referring to the negotiations for the second programme review, Sapin wished that an agreement is reached by the March 20 Eurogroup adding that the Greek institutions are discussing with the creditors and France is here to help and stress that it is time for an agreement, it is time to look to the future. “The situation has improved. An agreement is necessary so that confidence is improved and Greece returns to growth, employment and autonomy.”
