First Robotic Chest Lobectomy in Greece Successfully Performed on 80-Year-Old Cancer Patient

The first robotic chest lobectomy was performed successfully on an 80-year-old patient who suffered from lung cancer at the Inter-Balkan Medical Center of Thessaloniki last week.
The surgery was performed using the “da Vinci Si HD” system, without an open thoracotomy, and included the lobectomy and a systematic cleaning of the lymph nodes.
According to the head of the Thoracic Surgery Clinic, Dimitrios Filippou, who conducted the surgery with his team, the method offers the maximum protection of the tissues, the least post-surgical pain, minimum blood loss, limited hospitalization and a better aesthetic result.
The patient was discharged after four days in the hospital.
