Dirty Games in Cyprus

Cyprus has a serious problem. Not because people don’t care but because it is drowned by political opportunists and institutional corruption.
The AKEL/DYSI – DYSI/AKEL government for the past ten years have created a political mess and if the same pact and current mentality wins the next 2018 Presidential elections things will continue the same and the Republic of Cyprus would no longer exist.
Since Cypriots refuse to stand up for their rights but trust the system, then the only hope for a radical change in Cyprus is for the five smaller parties to join forces and offer the electorate a third option. If united, they could become a powerful force as an alternative to the status quo. Then one can only hope that they will do a better job than the previous ones; but then again, that’s a big order and very doubtful indeed!
The electioneering has started one year early and so are the knives in full force.
Giorgos Lillikas did not waste time and was the first to declare his own candidacy for the top seat in the land – the presidential chair. The Right and Left Wing parties have also joined the frenzy in the Battle for the Chair. Each one for themselves! None offer co-operation and unity in the interest of Cyprus but are all driven by political self-opportunism.
This is a great opportunity for the five smaller parties to unite and choose a credible candidate for the presidential elections and yet the leader of Simmahia Politon party, has jumped the queue and declared his candidacy without consultation with other parties but rather expects them to offer their support so he can try to win the presidential chair. Without their support there is no chance in the world of winning his dream chair.
That’s what’s wrong with Cyprus; political opportunism and self-interests rather than doing what is right for the country – they should all be ashamed!
In the eyes of the general public in the last three years, there are citizens with free minds that have proven themselves with actions by upholding the Law of the Land and sending corrupt officials and others into prison for wrong doing. This is unheard of in the history of Cyprus!
People like Odysseas the Auditor General, Clerides, the Attorney General and Fedonas the Mayor of Paphos they all truly believe in Justice, Rule of Law and not the status quo. They have started a Revolution of the Mind and that’s what Cyprus needs and not petty-kommata and petty-leaderships.
