Refugees in Hellinikon Camp Celebrate Nowruz

Iranians, Afghans and Kurdish refugees living in the makeshift camp of Hellinikon, southern Athens, celebrated Nowruz (the Iranian New Year) 1396 (2017).

The day, celebrated across cultures and national borders in western and central Asia, the Middle East and the Balkans, marks the first day of spring and the renewal of nature.
Refugees gathered in the afternoon at the former hockey field and celebrated with live traditional music and dancing, with the support of the Community of United Afghanis in Greece.
