Tourism in Greece Might Go Up 70% in Summer, German Newspaper Says

“The Balearic Islands are consistently first in the preferences of German tourists. But Greece closes the gap with big steps,” says the online version of German newspaper Die Welt.
An article with the title “Greece stands before a record this summer,” citing figures from GfK market research company, says that the choice of Greece as a favorite destination for Germans this summer has gone up 70% and Greek tourism would break another record.
Other travel destinations that show an upward trend are Bulgaria with 33%, Croatia 36%, Cyprus and Morocco. On the other hand, Turkey, which was the favorite destination of Germans after Mallorca, is the big “loser” this year.
The report says that the political upheaval in Turkey in combination with the Turkish president’s rhetoric against Europe will deter German tourists from choosing that destination.
Also, the article says, for this summer German travelers seem to prefer holiday packages and will avoid visiting big European cities in fear of terrorist attacks.
