The annual entrepreneurship survey by Amway was released on Wednesday and it revealed that there is a decline in the amount of Greeks who are setting up their own businesses as a source of their main income.
“The business environment has become more difficult, and although the jobless rate remains above 23 percent there are fewer people who can see themselves starting their own business,” National Technical University of Athens professor Giorgos Kalogirou explained as he relayed the survey’s findings.
The survey showed that nowadays, many Greeks look at having their own enterprise as merely an additional source of income, but not as a main occupation. Only around 64 percent of Greeks said that they had a positive outlook towards entrepreneurship in 2016, the latest survey revealed. The numbers contrast drastically to the previous year where in 2015 69 percent of Greeks had a positive general attitude towards entrepreneurship.
Also, the numbers of Greeks who could see themselves considering setting up their own business has declined significantly from 60 percent in 2015 to 46 percent in 2016.
