Cyprus Stopped at Least 18 Potential Terrorists Traveling to Syria, Zenon Says

Cyprus has a very close and effective cooperation with security and intelligence services of countries in its neighborhood. Foreign Ministry Permanent Secretary Alexandros Zenon had told CNA that the country has sent back to their countries of origin at least 18 so-called foreign fighters who had arrived to the island in the past, in order to pass to the Turkish occupied areas; from there to Turkey and then to Syria, to join the Islamic State fighters there.

Zenon noted that many countries, including Cyprus, are also in very close cooperation to prevent terrorist actions in European and other cities, adding that, as a result, many terrorist attacks have been prevented in several countries. Fifty such attempts were prevented in a country where a terrorist incident took place recently, he added.
