Three ice cream makers from Thessaloniki came up with a new delicacy that would satisfy both ice cream lovers and wine lovers: the wine ice cream, which they aptly named Ice Cream Darling.
Eugenia Koutouvela, Antonis Moysiadis and Lefteris Eleftheriadis made six flavors of ice cream based on Greek wines. Wine connoisseurs are likely to identify the flavors better than fans of ice cream, as the six different kinds are based on Greek grape varieties.
Ice Cream Darling flavors are asyrtiko with lemon, rosé xinomavro with vanilla cream, savvatiano with strawberry, xinomavro with almond and chocolate, moschofilero with fig and malagouzia with peach. In all varieties, the rich flavor of the wines blend with the cream and fruit for unmistakably delicious ice cream.
Ice Cream Darling made two appearances in wine fairs in Thessaloniki and can be purchased at a pastry shop chain in the city. However, its makers plan to export their wine ice cream creations.
