ELAS: Three Different Gangs Committing Armed Robberies of Safety Deposit Boxes in Attica

Violent burglaries in Greece are on the rise over the past few months, according to the Greek Police (ELAS).
ELAS’ official figures show that there have been an increase in the number of armed robberies around Attica, where groups of masked men enter places of business and hold the guards or personnel at gunpoint while they rob the premisses of safety deposit boxes.
The robbers are believed to be part of three different gangs that are arming themselves with knives and guns and are targeting safety deposit boxes, a senior official told Athens-Macedonia News Agency (ANA-MPA) on Friday. The largest gang, the senior official added, is believed to be made up of Eastern European nationals while the other two gangs are thought to consist of Greek Roma. “My assessment is that the two smaller gangs are imitating the actions of the larger gang,” the official said to ANA-MPA.
