Father Strangles 6-Year-Old Daughter, Throws Body in Trash Container

A 61-year-old man confessed early on Friday morning that he strangled his 6-year-old daughter and threw her body in a trash container in the Agia Varvara neighborhood of Athens.
Two days earlier, Yiannis Eikospentakis had reported to the police that burglars had entered his home and kidnapped his daughter, Stella. Police started searching for the burglars and the kidnapped girl and interrogated the father. However, Eikospentakis statements were contradictory and Agia Varvara police officers gave the case to the Homicide Division.
Homicide Division officers intensified the interrogation that lasted 12 hours and in the early hours of Friday, the 61-year-old man broke down and confessed that he had strangled his daughter, put her body in a trash bag and threw it in a garbage container in the Agia Varvara area.
During the interrogation, Hellenic Police officers and NGO “Smile of the Child” with the help of trained police dogs were searching the area in the hope that they would find the girl alive.
Eikospentakis told police that it all happened in a bad moment and that his daughter’s death was an accident. He said that Stella was crying and he took her in his arms to comfort her, but he squeezed her a little more than he should and he accidentally killed her.
The perpetrator also directed police to the trash container where he had dumped the body. It was about 150 meters from the family’s apartment.
