Conference on LGBT Refugees and Migrants Takes Place in Athens

An international conference on “LGBT Refugees and Migrants: The Situation in Greece and Europe” was held on Tuesday morning in Athens.

The conference was held within the project “Epsilon: Equipping Professionals for Supporting LGBT Refugees,” funded by the European Union’s Erasmus+ Program.
The conference kicked off with Dr. Antonia Torrens, President of the KMOP, while among those in attendance was Minister of Migration Policy Yiannis Mouzalas.
During the conference, there were presentations on the situation of LGBT (lesbian, gay bisexual, transgender) refugees and immigrants in Greece and Norway by Eleni Petrakis from the Greek Asylum Service, Public Relations and Information Office and by Monica Strand Korgerud, a LGBT activist.
Two speakers’ panels followed, the first on “Welcome and Support of LGBT Refugees and Immigrants,” while in the second panel LGBT refugees and immigrants shared their personal stories.
