President Anastasiades and Akinci to Meet on Thursday for Crucial Meetings

There are two separate meetings that Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish-Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci have planned for Thursday with the United Nations special envoy, Espen Barth Eide that could determine the discourse of the peace negations for the island.
There are high stakes involved with these talks as recent months have seen a stall in the progression of the Cyprus Talks and after a meeting between the two leaders at the old Nicosia airport of Wednesday, it appears that the UN-led peace talks remain at an impasse.
One issue standing in the way of moving forward with the talks is that the Turkish-Cypriot side is looking to settle the issue of oil and gas drilling off the coast of the island, sources have reported. Turkish Cypriots are looking to organize a conference dealing with this issue in June and the following month of July they are calling to suspend all drilling and gas exploration in Cyprus’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ).
