Protests and Strikes Continue Ahead of Greek Austerity Vote

Heavy rain didn’t stop major protests that have been ongoing in Athens over the last 2 days. The protests come ahead of an omnibus bill to be voted on in Parliament Thursday that will bring on additional austerity measures to the Greek people.
The demonstration comes one day after the general strike that halted services across the country including public transport and ferry services. Crowds of pensioners marched their way to Parliament chanting “no more tax theft,” as reported by AP.
Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras is seeking parliament’s approval for tax hikes and pension cuts as part of the three-year agreement with creditors in order to continue necessary loan payouts.

The Greek PM is relying on his three-seat majority in the 300-member parliament; there are no declared dissenters thus far.
