Evidence of Parcel Bomb Against Former Greek PM Leads to Known Terrorist Group

After collecting evidence from the scene of the parcel bomb explosion in the car of former prime minister Lucas Papademos, Greek police suspect that the perpetrators are linked with the Conspiracy of the Cells of Fire terrorist group.
According to the preliminary findings by the pyrotechnists of the Explosives Deactivation Unit, the perpetrators used gunpowder and fireworks. Further investigation determined the type of activation mechanism used.
The findings led the counter-terrorism unit to the conclusion that the mechanism and the explosives used are the same employed in previous hits by members of the Conspiracy of the Cells of Fire group.
Police believe that the amount of and the type of explosives used were not meant to kill but to scare and injure lightly.
The counter-terrorism unit is investigating a possible connection between the terrorists who sent booby-trapped packages to the office of the German Finance Minister in Berlin and the International Monetary Fund European headquarters in Paris last March.
Police have launched a wide investigation in post office centers in order to locate suspicious packages sent to politicians or prominent businessmen.
Greece’s political world has condemned the terrorist act that left Papademos and two passengers injured after the parcel bomb exploded.
