Ankara's Second Extradition Request for Turkish Officials Denied by Greece's Supreme Court

The European Association of Judges (EAJ) has expressed its firm support for Greek judges who ruled against a request from Ankara for the extradition of eight Turkish military officials.
“Any attempt to undermine the independence of the Greek judiciary but undue criticism should be avoided and rejected,” the association said in a statement issued at a meeting in Chisinau, Moldova, on May 19.
It was another day of mourning for Turkey Friday July 15, 2016, when an attempted military coup to remove President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan from office claimed the lives of civilians, military, and police officers and injured upwards of 1,000 people within the cities of Ankara and Istanbul.
It was at this time that the eight Turkish officials fled to Greece fairing unfair prosecution.
Greek judicial authorities remain concerned that the Turkish officers would not face a fair trial if returned to Turkey, where authorities conducted a massive purge of the civil service following the thwarted coup, and might be submitted to torture.
