Celebrating the exchange of the Greek and Chinese cultures as part of the China-Greece Cultural Exchanges and Cultural Industry Cooperation Year in 2017, two art workshops which took place in Greece on Sunday brought the Chinese culture closer to Greek children.
Many children attended the workshops, which involved the storytelling of the tale of four great dragons. The workshop took place at the Museum Herakleidon in Athens.
Storyteller Vassilia Vaxevani, who curated the workshop of the storytelling said that she thought the tale of the dragons would capitvate the young audience while teaching them about the Chinese culture, according to globaltimes.cn.
“Many children are afraid of the dragons, as in the European culture they are usually portrayed as fire breathing evil creatures. The Chinese dragon, though, is a spiritual and cultural symbol that represents prosperity and good luck,” she said.
The storytelling was followed by the children having the chance to draw their own dragons and narrate their own stories. They also learned about Chinese symbols, art. “Children were very interested in learning Chinese symbols, landscape painting and calligraphy,” visual artist Eleni Papadaki who curated the art workshop told Xinhua.
